Timber sleeper walls are the traditional sleeper style affordable, warm in appearance, and well-suited to garden beds, low boundary walls and rural-style landscaping. We use quality timber sleepers, galvanised steel C-channel posts, and rear drainage aggregate to maximise lifespan.

Do I need council approval for a sleeper retaining wall in Victoria?
Retaining walls under 1 metre generally don't require a building permit, but walls over 1 metre or any wall supporting a load like a driveway, pool or boundary do.
Timber or concrete sleepers, which should I choose?
Timber is cheaper upfront and suits garden-bed and low-boundary applications. Concrete costs more initially but lasts two to three times longer with effectively no maintenance. For walls over 1 metre, we recommend concrete.
How long does installation take?
A standard 10-metre sleeper wall under 1 metre takes one to two days. Larger or tiered walls take three to seven days depending on site access, footing depth and material.
Do sleeper walls need drainage?
Yes. Without drainage behind the wall, hydrostatic pressure builds up and dramatically shortens the wall's life. Every wall we build includes ag pipe and aggregate as standard.
